Housing
Housing Development The development of the Vernon Center Elementary school building and the property adjoining it has taken many twists and turns over the past few years. In spite of that we are beginning to see some progress as a series of new/older homes are brought into the community. The first of the homes was moved in and upgraded by John Rollings. It is a lovely rambler, vintage 1950's. John did a terrific job improving this property! The property has been sold and a new family has been brought to Vernon Center. Thanks John!
The remaining 7 lots that once were home to the ball field, were purchased by Roxie Brandts. Four homes will be moved in and three of the lots will be made available for a City Park. A couple of weeks ago, three of the homes arrived! The homes are older farm homes from the Lewisville area. All three arrived at the same time....down County Road 10, to Park Avenue and then down Main street.
The homes are now in place at their new locations. Basements have been constructed and improvements are being made to the homes before putting them up for sale. A new water loop is being installed to insure adequate water pressure for the residents on that end of town.
The last home, also an older farm home, arrived about two weeks after the first three. This one came right up Highway 169 early one morning, from its previous location north of Vernon Center. The foundation has been completed and a garage is being added.
Park Avenue This past year, the City was finally able to finish paving and adding curb and gutter to the stretch of Park Avenue off of County Road 10. The project had been planned earlier, but was never completed. Now, the residents of Park Avenue have a nice new road and no more dust!
